Understanding Roles and Permissions

Learn how member roles control access to ClubForge administration features.

Every active member has member access

The standard Member role is intended for normal club-member use. Administrative capabilities are granted through additional roles and the permissions associated with those roles.

Administrative roles

ClubForge defines roles for Club Administrator, Tournament Director, Board Member, Scorekeeper, Roster Manager, and Desk Volunteer. An individual member can be assigned the roles appropriate to that person's responsibilities.

Permissions determine what a role can do

Administrative navigation and protected pages are permission-driven. Examples include managing members, importing the roster, tournament administration, scoring, reports, golf courses, organization preferences, website content, communications, and billing.

The default Club Administrator role receives the broad organization-administration permission set. More focused roles start with narrower defaults—for example, a Roster Manager receives member and roster-import responsibilities, while a Scorekeeper receives tournament-scoring responsibility. Organizations with permission-management access can adjust the grants for their own organization.

Billing access is separately permissioned

Viewing and managing the organization subscription requires the Manage billing permission. A normal member does not gain billing access simply by having a ClubForge login.

Roles describe responsibility; permissions enforce access.

If an administrator cannot see a feature that another administrator can see, review the person's assigned roles and the organization's current permission grants.
