Creating Player Assignments

Configure shotgun, tee-time, or manual groups and organize registered players for play.

Open the Assignments stage

For director-assigned tournaments, use Tournament Administration → Assignments after registration closes. The stage shows the current assignment status, protects downstream workflow dependencies, and provides the tools appropriate to the selected assignment mode.

Choose an assignment mode

Shotgun Start

Players are assigned to holes, tee groups, and positions. Build and finalize the shotgun layout first, then generate assignments.

Tee Times

Players are assigned to sequential tee times and groups. Configure and finalize the tee-time layout before generating assignments.

Manual Groups

Use manually defined groups when the event does not fit the normal shotgun or sequential tee-time layout.

Player-selected signup-sheet tournaments use an effective Shotgun Start assignment mode because players have already selected their starting positions during registration.

Generate, review, and edit assignments

Once the required layout exists and registration has reached the closed state, select Generate Assignments. The assignment summary shows registered, assigned, and unassigned player counts, total capacity, and remaining open positions.

Use Edit Assignments to make director adjustments. Depending on the mode, you can place an unassigned registered player into an open position, move a player, or swap assigned players. If you need to start over before the stage is protected, use Clear Player Assignments and regenerate them.

Finalize assignments

Do not finalize until the layout and player placement are ready for tournament operations. Finalization protects the assignment state used by handicap, scoring, reporting, and tee-selection workflows. If ClubForge allows reopening later, use the explicit Reopen Assignments action rather than attempting to change protected data indirectly.

After play begins, use the correction workflow.

Normal assignment editing is intentionally restricted once the tournament has started. Use Post-Start Assignment Correction for operational changes that must be made after play begins.
